can anyone explain why my l245 slips out of reverse? And how to fix?

More than likely your Kabota has a worn reverse gear. Can you hold the shiftlever with your hand and then does it stay in gear somewhat? If you do need a reverse gear, parts will be about $200. but the big thing is labor. If youfeel comfortable about splitting your tractor apart, you may be able to get a manual or some drawings showing you the breakdown and perform this yourself.If this doesn't sound like something you can tackle, be prepared to pay for about 8 to 15 hours labor. ....

Yes if I hold for a couple seconds it stays in place. What does that mean? ....

It means you've probably got a bad reverse gear. It'll need split and the transmissionwill need to have a gear put in it. (see original comment for cost estimate) ....
